Wine Guy Tasting Notes
'05 Chateau La Tour de Mons - Margaux - Bourgoeis Superieur
Tier 2
Appearance was dark purple, no blue, stains glass opaque core.
Nose was fresh raspberries, perfume, dark red roses, wet hay, nutmeg
Taste was like dark Mediterranean fruits tart but like over ripe black fruit, eucalyptus, fresh asparagus, heavy oak and tannins. Leave this one alone for another 10 years.
'04 Freemark Abbey Cabernet Sauvignon - Rutherford
Appearance was dark ruby, opaque, slight rim variation
Nose was like wild berry jam and lavender flowers
Taste let open for at lease an hour, opens up into a lot of tart red fruits like Dried cranberries, strawberry jam, raspberry preserves, baked cherry pie, blackberry jam, cacao, roasted tabac
Overall a great value buy, I highly reccomend
'05 Stag's Leap - Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon - Napa
Tier 3
Appearance was dark purple, garnet, no blue, very slight rim variation, opaque core
Nose was huge with black currant, blackberry jam and toast, candied dried cranberries, cassis, skin of green bell pepper and huge saddle leather.
Taste was black raspberry jam, black cherry, black currant, cacao powder, tabacco, roasted coffee. Really there is more non-fruit in this wine. It is very strong and straight forward but nicely balanced and the terroir shows through, slatey quality.
